"Don't Panic! (And Other Principles for Deaning or Life)"

Paul Beare, Ph.D.

Paul Beare received his Ph.D. in Special Education specializing in the education of students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders. After four years in direct service delivery he joined the faculty at MN State University, Moorhead, where he worked for 21 years. Six years at Moorhead were as a program coordinator, ten years as department chair and five as Director of Teacher Education. He has been a Dean for ten years, three at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, GA and the last seven at Fresno State. He currently serves on the Board for University High School, the Sierra Foothills Conservancy, Pivot Learning Partners, and The Renaissance Group, and on is Chair, Elect of the CSU Deans of Education.

Jim Marshall, Ph.D.

Jim Marshall is Interim Associate Dean of the Kremen School of Education and Human Development. Prior to his tenure at Fresno State, he worked as a field biologist for the Florida Fish and Game and taught science at both the high school and the elementary school levels. Having earned a BS in Wildlife Ecology, an MA in Biology and Science Education, and a Ph.D. in Science Education, he serves as the Director of the Central Valley Science Project. As such, he works extensively in providing professional development opportunities for K-12 teachers. He also teaches curriculum courses in the Educational Leadership doctoral program and serves on numerous dissertation committees. In 2006, he received the Fresno State President’s Award for Excellence.
