Dr. James M. Cypher: “Mexico: A Country Without an (Economic) Future?”
Thursday, April 8, 2010, 3:30-5:00 P.M. Classroom S147
Abstract
Mexico has just completed, in 2009, what is arguably the worst year of economic downturn since the onset of the Depression. The downturn of 2009 came with great forewarning, had anyone in the political and economic elite been willing to take a serious look. Why was the downturn the worst in Latin America and nearly 3 times greater than that of the U.S.? How and why has the free market export model adopted by Mexico failed? What does the future hold?
