“ADVANCING KNOWLEDGE, ADVANCING DIVERSITY”
Caroline S. Turner, Ph.D.
Professor of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies, Lincoln Professor of Ethics & Education, & Program Director for Higher & Postsecondary Education, Arizona State University
To better prepare students for an increasingly diverse society, campuses across the country remain engaged in efforts to diversify the racial and ethnic makeup of their faculties. However, faculty of color remain seriously underrepresented, comprising only 17% of total full-time faculty. This lecture addresses the scholarship which faculty of color contribute to the academic enterprise and research related to their hiring, persistence, and advancement.
Dr. Turner is the recipient of the 2009 AERA Scholars of Color in Education Distinguished Contribution Award, the 2009 AERA Dr. Carlos J Vallejo Memorial Award for Lifetime Scholarship, and the 2008 ASHE Council on Ethnic Participation Mildred Garcia Award for Exemplary Scholarship. She is also the author of Diversifying the Faculty: A Guidebook for Search Committees, co-author of Faculty of Color in Academe: Bittersweet Success, and co-editor of Understanding Minority Serving Institutions.
