Online education today continues to develop at a rapid rate, and one especially significant development in recent years has been the emergence of specific teaching competencies.  Dr. Larry Ragan, Director-Faculty of the World Campus at Pennsylvania State University will cover the prioritization and ranking of more than 100 competencies for online teaching.  Dr. Ragan, directs the design and development of a wide range of faculty development services and systems. He has worked in online educational design and delivery for more than 11 years and has taught a variety of online courses and faculty development programs. His current areas of research include the articulation of strategies, techniques and methods that faculty can use to manage their online teaching workload and the definition of the core competencies required for online teaching success.

This seminar will:
• Describe the six categories of competencies.
• Determine instructional strategies for online instructors to acquire these skills.
• Develop measurement strategies for assessing the readiness of online instructors against the defined competencies.
• Describe a series of sample tasks within each of the six categories.
