ANNOUNCING THE FIRST ANNUAL C. G. HANZLICEK $1,000 POETRY WRITING FELLOWSHIP
Established through the generosity of Chuck and Dianne Hanzlicek
in coordination with Fresno State’s English Department and the MFA in Creative Writing Program
Fresno State's MFA in Creative Writing Program is thrilled to announce the first-annual C. G. Hanzlicek $1,000 Poetry Writing Fellowship prize granted every year to one outstanding MFA poetry student. Established through the generosity of Chuck and Dianne Hanzlicek, this annual fellowship recognizes a continuing MFA student selected on the basis of excellence and need.
For 35 years, C. G. Hanzlicek taught at California State University, Fresno, where for most of that time, he was the Director of the Creative Writing Program. He is the author of eight books of poetry. His work has appeared in over a dozen anthologies and in many journals. For over a decade, he was the director of the Fresno Poets’ Association, and in the summer of 2001, he retired from teaching.
The award is presented at the Spring '11 MFA Thesis Reading Series Friday, April 15th at 7 p.m. in the Alice Peters Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. Free parking in the UBC lot.
