Pre-medical and Health Scholars Program (PHSP) | CSU Fresno
Dear Students & Faculty,
The Pre-medical and Health Scholars Program (PHSP) is currently accepting applications for the Spring 2010 semester. The Pre-medical and Health Scholars Program is a joint program between the University of California, San Francisco and California State University, Fresno which provides support to disadvantaged students committed to becoming competitive applicants to health professional schools (medical, dental or pharmacy). Selected students engage in a structured support program of academic enrichment and social support, preparing them for admission into health professional school. The ultimate goal is for these individuals to become healthcare professionals that will practice in the Central Valley, providing care to the medically underserved.

Program Eligibility
1. Applicants must have a strong interest and commitment to a career in medicine, pharmacy or dentistry.
2. Applicants must be either educationally OR economically disadvantaged.
3. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
4. Applicants must submit completed application which includes a transcript, personal statement, financial documents and a letter of recommendation. Finalists will be selected for a personal interview.
Awards & Benefits
Health Scholars:
· Participate in a monthly seminar series
· Benefit from support and advising from the program staff

· Participate in an MCAT prep course
· Benefit from a supportive network of health scholars pursuing health professional school
· Engage with local area health professionals
· Receive health professional school application assistance
· Attend field trips to the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine and other pre-medical conferences
· Mentoring opportunities
· Receive a $250 bookstore stipend per semester
· Have access to a private Scholar Study Center with internet access
· Receive a $500 stipend for participating in a summer clinical and community project
· Receive special recognition at annual Health Scholars Reception
